A place where wars are fought and scandals are started; a place where tears fall and laughter rises; a place where in the morning you can be browsing cat videos and then four hours later you somehow got to watching a man try to paint his elbow with a mouthful of paint.

This is, I feel, a perfect way to describe the internet.

Now, we had this whole day at school to compose a speech in which we chose a subject we were passionate about to write for. I, of course, chose the internet because I am absolutely addicted to it and I can’t change that. Seeing as I am horrible at public speaking and, in my humble opinion, thought the idea and extended metaphor behind my speech was rather brilliant, I have decided to make it some what of an amateur article.

The Internet is a vast land of wonders that stretch out across the continent of ‘Wild Endeavour’ and reach the four corners of the world that we have come to know as planet ‘Boredom’. The Internet is a vast and articulate land, populated by three main kingdoms. These kingdoms have come to be known as the ‘Three Kingdoms of the Social Networks’; they are controlled and ruled and, at some times, forgotten and lost.

The first and most powerful of these three kingdoms is ‘Facebook’, ruled by Lord Face of Book whom named his kingdom after himself. This kingdom is made up of vast, resourceful lands that play a key part in the kingdom’s writhing agriculture and the ripe crops that they pull in after every harvest on the plains of ‘Farmworld’. These crops are then taken and made into product that are converted into food to be sold on the lively streets, lined with resaurants. That part of the kingdom is called ‘Caféworld’.

Though all was once not well in the Kingdom of Facebook as the place has had bad history with Mafia problems - drugs were sold and mass amounts of damage were done to both government and farms and cafés alike. This revolution in crime came to be known as the ‘Mafia Wars’ and was a tragic time in the history of Facebook. Now, thankfully, Lord Face of Book has a tight hold over all of his kingdom and it is deemed a safe and happy place to live (even if most of the residents there are unintelligent and completely ignorant).

The second largest of these kingdoms is called the Land of Twitter and is owned and run by Lady Twitter herself. The princess of the land took over from the throne of her father, King Twitter. She was raised with birds and learnt to sing with them and learn to tweet the way they do. Some of the residents that reside on the land say that she can talk to the birds in a way unknown on all of the internet.

Alas, Lady Twitter is both a teenage ruler and a complete and utter gossip and so she uses the birds that she can talk to in order to send messages around the Internet to her ‘friends’ in other kingdoms. To send these messages she either tweets them to the birds or attaches small scrolls to their legs before setting them on their way; many of these messages are lost on the journey. Needless to say, her messages are often unprofessional and useless.

The third of these kingdoms is no longer functioning and has been lost into the ground; it is festering and dying and unpopulated by anyone with more than half a brain. This kingdom has come to be known as the Ruined Kingdom of Myspace. No one knows whom its founder was, nor do they know who its last ruler was. This is because all of the archives on the kingdom were lost and burnt along with the land.

The people who do reside in the Ruined Kingdom of Myspace are frail and insane. These people have been driven out of their minds by unnatural melodies of madness, crazy architecture and the toxic gases in which have taken over the ruins of the land. These people are rabid and do not know what they are doing as they trample around the once colourful and alive land; as they limp through the streets of once hopeful youths.

However, these kingdoms are not the only things that belong within the kingdoms.

Entertainment on the internet is amazing and diverse, much of the information and video files being stored in the Grand Archives of Youtube, the largest video gathering culture in all of the lands of the Internet. In fact, the Grand Archives have a whole valley dedicated to kitten and cat videos and it is said that this valley is ruled by one named King Piano of Cat, a prince and child from Lady Nyan and King Nonononono.

But the Grand Archives of Youtube are only the largest sharing network still standing on the planet because of one simple reason: Dragon SOPA. This horrid, sly creature destroyed the Island of MegaUpload, a desert paradise in which people shared files in comfort and for free. Dragon SOPA was not happy with this and so he burnt the Island and set it alight, destroying all residents of the land along with the files that had once been deposited there. Now the files are merely bate of the Pirates that sail the 56MB connections.

Dragon SOPA is the criminal of the Land of the Internet and is threatening the survival of the kingdoms there, though it is said in legend that Lord Face of Book is the one who created him, though that rumour was created by Lady Twitter (who is known to not be fond of Lord Face of Book despite their alliance) and can be deemed incorrect.
